FIGHTING FOR A TEXAS FAMILIES CAN AFFORD

Who We Are

Texans for Fiscal Responsibility is an independent educational non-profit organization seeking to illuminate the actions of government, educate and equip citizens to effectively advocate for pro-taxpayer and pro-family reforms, and hold lawmakers accountable for their actions.

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 2006, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility set out to champion fiscal conservatism and policies that put Texas taxpayers first. In 2007, we launched the Fiscal Responsibility Index, our biennial scorecard that grades lawmakers on their budget and economic votes, and introduced the Taxpayer Pledge to encourage legislators to avoid tax hikes. Since then we’ve called out corporate welfare for adding to families’ tax burdens and crafted the Texas Prosperity Plan to eliminate property taxes using state surpluses,

ban taxpayer-funded lobbying, and cap budget growth to prioritize family needs. Through our “Fiscal Note” newsletter, “Taxpayer Talks” podcast, and statewide events, we educate Texans, pushing for wins like the $12.7 billion property tax cut in 2023 while challenging wasteful spending. Today, we’re also focused on equipping every Texan with the ability to defend their right to a fiscally responsible government.

The problem is that government spends too much.”
